The City of Kannapolis and the UNC Nutrition Research Institute, as lead partners in a NC Research Campus collaboration for the NC Science Festival, are issuing a Call for Design Proposals. North Carolina artists (high school age and beyond) are invited to submit a design for a painted public mural that represents the theme of Building STEAM in Kannapolis.
The mural should incorporate all of the following elements:
- Genetics
- Health and Wellness
- Nutrition
The design will span five 7’ x 5’ blocks of a straight campus sidewalk. It should be aesthetically pleasing from a vertical and horizontal perspective. Installation will be the responsibility of the artist.

- Sketch of proposed design
- Bid requested for the production of final design to include materials and artist’s compensation
- Brief explanation of design experience
