Study Purpose: We want to invite you to participate in a research project to conduct a study to identify biomarkers of whole-grain corn intake through a pharmacokinetic (how a substance is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and eliminated by the body over time) feeding study. Our goal is to develop a better understanding of the unique compounds found in corn and their impact on human health.
To participate in this study, you must:
• Refrain from eating any whole-grain products, alcohol, or supplements and from smoking throughout the study.
• Provide blood and urine samples after consuming the corn meal provided.
• Provide a baseline stool sample.
• The total duration of the study is 17 days, with 1 week of wash-in and 6 days wash-out.
- A wash-in period is the time before the main study intervention when participants follow certain instructions (for example, stopping certain medications, following a diet, or taking a standardized treatment) so everyone starts under similar conditions.
- A wash-out period is a time after an intervention (or between interventions in a crossover study) that allows the effects of a treatment to wear off before measurements are taken or another treatment begins.
• This study includes two 8-hour blood draw sessions
Research study participation includes
• Be between 25 -70 years of age
• Have a BMI of 18-30
• Able to read, speak, and understand English
• Blood and urine clinical test results within the normal range
• Willingness to restrict one’s diet during the study
Compensation: Qualified participants will be paid up to $500.
