Nutrition Research Institute – Online Internship Program
The NRI is excited to announce our new online internship program for high school students! This 6-week, online-only program will allow students the opportunity to learn from NRI Principal Investigators, participate in group mentoring sessions, and complete an independent nutrition research project and presentation.
PLEASE NOTE: All spots for the 2020 Online Internship Program have been filled. Additional applicants will be placed on a first-come, first-served waitlist.
INTERNSHIP SCHEDULE (all sessions will take place via Zoom):
Week of July 6: Introduction to the NRI (1-hour lecture) and Introduction to the Digital Internship Program (1-hour group session)
Week of July 13: Introduction to Research Methods I (1-hour lecture) and Group Mentoring (1-hour session)
Week of July 20: Introduction to Research Methods II (1-hour lecture) and Group Mentoring (1-hour session)
Week of July 27: Guest Lecture with NRI Research Scientist (1-hour) and Group Mentoring (1-hour session)
Week of August 3: Guest Lecture with NRI Research Scientist (1-hour) and Group Mentoring (1-hour session)
Week of August 10: Student Presentations (2-hour session)
Program Requirements: To successfully complete the internship program, students must attend all seminars and workshops and complete their program project (a 3-5-page paper on the nutrient of their choice). Students must also prepare and give a 5-minute presentation related to their program project.
Application Requirements: All applicants must be either a current high school student (rising freshman who will be entering high school in the fall of 2020 are eligible to participate) or a recent high school graduate who will begin their freshman year of college in the fall of 2020. All applicants under the age of 18 must have permission from their parents to participate.
