Karen Corbin, Ph.D., R.D., joined the UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI) in 2009 and was promoted to research assistant professor in 2011. Dr. Corbin’s research focuses on nutritional and genetic factors in obesity, fatty liver disease and metabolism.
Her goal is to apply cutting-edge science to develop individualized solutions to nutrition-related health problems such as fatty liver, obesity and diabetes.
“Science is an opportunity to gain knowledge that will help people,” Dr. Corbin said. “As a faculty member with the NRI, I am able to best leverage that opportunity in the area of nutrition, which is essentially the perfect way to use science to improve the health of our communities.”
Dr. Corbin earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Food Science from Florida State University. She was a clinical dietitian, certified diabetes educator and co-director of preventive services at the Heart and Vascular Institute of Florida in St. Petersburg. She obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.
