Free event – Nutrition Myths: Fact or Fake?
February 4, 2026
Katie Meyer, ScD, is a nutritional and cardiovascular disease epidemiologist. Her research focuses on diet-related health behaviors and nutritional risk factors for cardiometabolic disease. She is a recent recipient of a Research Scientist Development Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to study the gut microbiome, nutrient metabolites, and cardiovascular disease in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults Study (CARDIA).
Nutrition advice is everywhere. Unfortunately, it is often confusing, contradictory, or oversimplified.
Join us at our next Appetite for Life event on Tuesday, February 24 at 12:00 p.m., offered both in person and virtually. This program, Nutrition Myths: Fact or Fake?, will feature Katie Meyer, ScD, who will break down common nutrition myths and explain what research actually shows.
Meyer is a nutritional and cardiovascular disease epidemiologist whose research examines how diet and related health behaviors influence cardiometabolic disease risk. Her work focuses on understanding the links between nutrition, the gut microbiome, and long-term heart health, with the goal of improving prevention strategies across the lifespan.
During this session, we’ll explore where popular nutrition beliefs come from, why they persist, and how scientists evaluate nutrition claims. Attendees will gain tools for thinking more critically about the nutrition information they encounter every day.
As always, this Appetite for Life event is free, but registration is required for both in-person and virtual attendance.
