When Catawba College transferred state-of-the-art instrumentation to the NRI, it opened the door to expanding research capabilities for NRI scientists and real-life lab experience for Catawba students. The NRI will use the equipment to further its research into how metabolism and nutrition requirements are individualized.
May 31, 2013 – Researchers at the NRI are studying nutrition in a new way, discovering how diet and exercise affect health and help prevent chronic disease. Strengthened associations between individualized nutrition and enhanced health will have a global impact.
Interns Grace Millsap, Hillary Tuggle and Niju Khatiwada spend their time at the NRI exploring connections between cognition and nutrition, helping with marketing and promotion, and learning data management.
Dr. Zeisel’s lecture on nutrition and cancer, the first session of our five-part Appetite for Life Academy series that is currently underway, was featured this week in the Salisbury Post. 159 people from the surrounding area joined us for the lecture.

Teaching children about the importance of eating healthy foods is a focus for the NRI. The NRI is hosting two fun events, a Science Fair and a concert with Roger Day, to help kids and their families learn more about nutrition and brain development.
