At the UNC Nutrition Research Institute (NRI), we’re on a mission to advance health through precision nutrition – and we invite you to be a part of it! By participating in our studies, you can help us uncover how nutrition affects well-being at every stage of life and contribute to scientific breakthroughs that can improve health outcomes for all.

Our Approach to Research
Our work in intervention science focuses on developing and evaluating strategies that promote better health through nutrition. Using clinical trials and various studies, we test specific approaches – from new dietary plans to behavioral health strategies – to assess their effectiveness in enhancing well-being and preventing disease.

Why Volunteer?
People join clinical research studies for a variety of reasons. Some want to support future health improvements, while others are motivated by personal health interests. Whatever your reason, your involvement is invaluable.

Featured Studies
We’re currently inviting participants for a variety of studies, including:

  • Agile Study: This study explores innovative ways to encourage healthy eating and physical activity in young adults through a smartphone app and digital health tools.
  • Nutrition for Precision Health: This study is exploring how personalized diets can improve health and prevent chronic diseases by examining individual responses to different foods as part of a major initiative to advance health research.
  • Children’s Health Study: This study investigates genes and lifestyle factors that impact children’s health and well-being.
  • HONOR Study: We’re studying technology-based treatment options to help African American adults managing type 2 diabetes make better nutrition and health choices.

Each study is unique, and participation is always voluntary. You can decide to end your involvement at any time, and participants are compensated for their time based on the activities and time commitment required.
